ABOUT SEMILLAS DE UNIDAD

Semillas "Virtual” Tutoring
Fiesta Cristiana’s Semillas de Unidad (Seeds of Unity) is a tutoring ministry that works to overcome inequality challenges in our education system for “English as a Second Language” Hispanic/Latino students and families. K-8 students are individually matched with a tutor for one-on-one assistance with homework, math, science, history and English.  SdU virtual tutoring will begin October 3rd, 2022!  For the Spring semester 2023 we will offer in person tutoring as well as hybrid and virtual.  More information to follow.

What Tutors and Prospective Tutors Should Know
If you are considering registration to be an SdU tutor, be aware of the following:
  • Tutors do not need to know Spanish necessarily because most students being tutored are bilingual.
  • However, tutors who know some Spanish can communicate more easily with SdU parents
  • Bilingual tutors are needed to work with SdU students who are not proficient with English.
Tutors meet with their paired students (grades K-8) via Zoom or Google meeting. They work with their paired students on Google classroom assignments, help them practice reading and math, and serve as positive mentors.  If tutors need support, parents are available during all tutor-student meetings.

Tutor Registration Forms
All prospective tutors must complete the following:

Tutor Registration Form
Parent registration
  • Registration is the first step to become an SdU tutor.
  • Prospective tutors provide information about themselves, which the SdU team uses to match them with their student(s)
  • Tutor training will be made available via zoom

Fiesta Cristiana's Safe Sanctuary Digital policy agreement:

Fiesta Cristiana seeks to holistically restore Hispanic/Latino individuals, families and their neighbors to create a diverse and loving Kingdom of God. Everyone within the Semillas de Unidad community must possess a genuine interest in and agreement with the purpose and mission of Fiesta Cristiana. A positive attitude, emotional and spiritual maturity, ability, and willingness to work as part of a cross-cultural team are required. All within the Semillas de Unidad community are asked to read the Safe Sanctuary policy and understand that at some point, Fiesta Cristiana may ask for a background check to work with children, youth, and vulnerable adults taking full responsibility for the persons in their care and the projects and activities associated with Fiesta Cristiana.  Below is the policy to read before completing the Safe Sanctuary agreement form.
